Zusammenfassung: | A study to assess the effectiveness of an on-site audiologic rehabilitation program at a long-term care facility in Dundas, Ontario, is reported. Residents (N = 27, mean age 85) & staff (N = 30) were evaluated before & after program start for communicative competence. Participants were presented with scenarios of typical communication problems & asked to identify problem sources & solutions. Comparison of results indicate that whereas the staff showed no changes, residents generated increased numbers of problems & solutions. A change in the designation of who would be responsible for solutions & increase in implementing solutions were also found. It is concluded that residents had learned to participate more aggresively in solving normal communication problems. 12 Figures, 2 Appendixes, 17 References. Adapted from the source document |
