Zusammenfassung: | Two models of lang learning are examined - one based on current transformational grammar & one on S. Krashen's input hypothesis (Second Language Acquisition and Second Language Learning, Oxford: Pergamon Press, 1981). Transformational models are shown to ignore a comprehension level of lang processing & to assume the presence of relevant input. Krashen's model, on the other hand, characterizes comprehensible input as the crucial variable in lang acquisition. His model almost entirely ignores the processes leading to learning. Some empirical "input studies" are examined. These studies have centered on how comprehensible input comes into being, while ignoring the psycholinguistic processes of second-lang comprehension. Some aspects of second-lang learning in situations where the learner has at least some control over the learning environment are discussed. 78 References. B. Annesser Murray |
