Zusammenfassung: | Juglone, 5-hydroxy, 1:4 naphthoquinone, a natural product of the black walnut,
Juglans nigra, was dissolved in an ethanol-glucose mixture and injected i.v. into anesthetized dogs. It produced no changes in EKG, heart rate, or blood pressure. Lung wet: dry weight ratios, respiratory rate, hematocrit, and blood specific gravity increased significantly, while plasma specific gravity decreased. Histopathologic changes in lungs and liver support the view that juglone is toxic to the cell membrane, increasing capillary permeability. |
