Zusammenfassung:Small distally placed arteriovenous fistulas have been successfully created in sixteen patients to allow venovenous hemodialysis. Flow rates of 100 to 350 ml. per minute have been obtained and have been adequate for dialysis. Cardiodynamic study has failed to show deleterious cardiac effects and temporary shunt occlusion has never yielded a bradycardiac reflex change. Cutaneous infections and thrombotic complications have been eliminated by this technic. Patient acceptability has been rewarding.
