Zusammenfassung: | A description of a method for semiautomatic content analysis of verbal material by computer. The system consists of 3 main elements: (1) a soc sci dictionary representing variables in the investigator's theory. 14 existing dictionaries are described. (2) Data to be analyzed & punched in verbal form on IBM cards. (3) A series of programs which apply a dictionary to the data to identify in quantitative terms the extent to which topics, att's, & themes are expressed in the data. The programs operate at high speed on IBM 7094 & 1401 computers. Examples are given of procedures for summarizing & tabulating the results, & retrieving key concepts & themes in the original form as text. The system is outlined in greater detail & applications in several soc sci fields demonstrated in Stone, P. J., Dunphy, D. C., Smith, M. S., Ogilvie, D. M., THE GENERAL INQUIRER: A COMPUTER APPROACH TO CONTENT ANALYSIS, Boston: MIT Press, 1966. AA. |
