Effects of alloy elements (Mg, Zn, Sn) on the microstructures and compression properties of high-volume-fraction TiC x /Al composites

The addition of Mg significantly improves the strength of the 50 vol.% TiC x /Al composite, and the ultimate compression strength of the TiC x /Al–Mg composite is about 353 MPa higher than that of the TiC x /Al composite. The addition of Zn improves the ductility of the composite, the fracture strai...

Beschreibung
Zusammenfassung:The addition of Mg significantly improves the strength of the 50 vol.% TiC x /Al composite, and the ultimate compression strength of the TiC x /Al–Mg composite is about 353 MPa higher than that of the TiC x /Al composite. The addition of Zn improves the ductility of the composite, the fracture strain of which increases from 7.53% to 9.35%. With the addition of Sn, the TiC x /Al–Sn composite exhibits the highest work-hardening capacity, which is about 3.64 times higher than that of the TiC x /Al composite.
