Lithium in Manic-Depressive Illness

Treatment with lithium carbonate has stabilized a group of patients with long-standing manic-depressive illness. These are patients who have shown large total body water and weight changes and serum sodium changes during the different phases of the illness. The authors feel that lithium may be useful in the biochemical study of these illnesses as well as in their treatment.
