Advantage of pneumonectomy in massive excision of the chest wall

A case is reported in which left pneumonectomy was employed to minimize the effects of pendelluft on ventilation of the right lung after excision of a major portion of the left hemithorax in a patient with recurrent fibrosarcoma.
