Regulation of germinal vesicle breakdown in starfish oocytes

A small molecular weight factor, which causes breakdown of the germinal vesicle of isolated immature oocytes maintained in normal or CaFSW, was separated from the ovaries of starfish. Addition of RNF to ovarian tissue increased the amount of this substance.
