Zusammenfassung:On the basis of the nucleotide divergence in the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) domain of the rRNA gene and the D1/D2 domain of the 26S rRNA gene, species of the genus Hyphopichia can be divided into different phylogenetic groups. In this study, three distinct phylogenetic clusters as well as a novel species, Hyphopichia pseudoburtonii sp. nov. with type strain CBS 2455(T) (=JCM 16346(T)), are introduced. Mating studies indicate that strains belonging to Hyphopichia pseudoburtonii are heterothallic.
