The Effect of Cryptococcin on Leukocytic Migration

Inhibition of leukocytic migration produced by cryptococcin may be of value in the detection of hypersensitivity to Cryptococcus neof ormans in guinea pigs and humans. A 1:1.5 or 1:2 dilution of cryptococcin in Eagle's medium markedly stimulates the migration of leukocytes from nonsensitized animals and humans. This same cryptococcin significantly inhibits the migration of leukocytes from infected animals and from human subjects with manifest infection or with detectable antibody. This test is simple to perform and appears to facilitate the detection of immunological responsivity to C. neo f ormans.
