Zusammenfassung:1. 1. Net sodium transport, lactate formation and tissue ATP concentrations were measured in the isolated bladder of the turtle under aerobic conditions using either antimycin A, an inhibitor of forward electron transport or an inhibitor of Na +K + activated, Mg 2+ dependent ATPase (strophanthin); and in anaerobic environment using two inhibitors of glycolysis (iodoacetate and sodium fluoride) and also using strophanthin. 2. 2. With antimycin, glycolysis was stimulated, ATP levels diminished moderately and net sodium transport was sustained at a reduced level. 3. 3. Both of the glycolytic inhibitors decreased anaerobic glycolysis, net sodium transport and tissue ATP concentrations. 4. 4. Strophanthin produced a marked decrease in net sodium transport both aerobically and anaerobically. 5. 5. Strophanthin did not produce significant changes either in glycolysis or ATP levels aerobically or anaerobically.
