Immunodisc electrophoresis

An immunodisc electrophoretic technique for performing antigenic analysis of complex materials is described. The acrylamide gel for electrophoresis is polymerized in the form of a hollow cylinder by placing a Plexiglas rod in the middle of the tube. Subsequent to electrophoresis the rod is removed and the lumen is filled with the antiserum mixed with molten agar. The procedure yielded numerous clearly separated precipitin bands which were easy to count as they appeared in the form of precipitin discs rather than as overlapping ares characteristically seen in immuno-electrophoresis in agar or polyacrylamide gels on slides.
