Zusammenfassung:32 OS WHO WERE HIGH IN ETHNOCENTRISM AND DOGMATISM SHOWED GENERALLY LESS ABILITY THAN 32 MORE OPEN-MINDED OS TO OBTAIN BINOCULAR FUSION OF DISCREPANT STIMULI PRESENTED BRIEFLY BY MEANS OF A STEREOSCOPE. HIGH ETHNOCENTRIC-DOGMATIC OS TENDED TO REPORT BIFURCATE RESOLUTION OF BINOCULAR RACIAL CONFLICT MORE FREQUENTLY THAN THE LOW GROUP OF OS. BOTH GROUPS WERE SIMILAR IN PREFERRING BIFURCATE RESPONSES IN RESOLVING SEXUAL DIFFERENCES IN BINOCULAR STIMULI. WITH A MORE NEUTRAL SET OF PAIRED STIMULI, BOTH GROUPS WERE CHARACTERIZED BY FUSION RESPONSES, BUT THE LOW GROUPS MORE SO THAN THE HIGH GROUP. A BIFURCATION PRINCIPLE WAS POSTULATED AS A PRIMARY TENDENCY AMONG OS IN SELECTING AND ORGANIZING REALITY CUES WHICH BEAR ON THEIR APPREHENSIONS. (20 REF.)
