Experimental Trypanosoma cruzi infections in domestic pigs ( Sus scrofa domestica)

Of 4 English pigs challenged with a virulent Peruvian strain of Trypanosoma cruzi, 3 became infected. These infections were detected by inoculations of mice. The course of the infection in the pigs was mild—in one challenged with a dose of 10 trypanosomes per gramme of body weight, isolated from mouse blood, parasitaemia was never detected by the methods used.
