Efficacies of two alarm substances of the honey bee
2-Heptanone required concentrations twenty to seventy times higher than isopentyl acetate to evoke similar alarm reactions from bees at the hive entrance. The potency of the alarm pheromone in the sting apparatus appeared to depend largely, but not entirely, on its content of isopentyl acetate.
