Zusammenfassung:The main evidence for the hypothesis that the transitional cell in the lymphoid bone-marrow compartment is the hæmopoietic stem cell is as follows: quantitative changes in lymphoid cells in a variety of levels of erythropoietic activity point to the stem cell being within this group; the lack of any other cell in the bone-marrow capable of fitting the role on quantitative and morphological grounds; and the present finding of D.N.A. synthesis without corresponding mitosis in basophilic transitional cells.
