Measurement of the true total plasma calcium in fowls: A comparison between a titrimetric method and atomic absorption spectrophotometry

1. 1. Teh relatively large amounts of “bound” calcium in the plasma of the laying hen are not completely precipitated when oxalate is added directly to the plasma. 2. 2. Deproteinization of plasma with trichloroacetic acid liberates all the calcium which is found to be present by atomic absorption s...

Zusammenfassung:1. 1. Teh relatively large amounts of “bound” calcium in the plasma of the laying hen are not completely precipitated when oxalate is added directly to the plasma. 2. 2. Deproteinization of plasma with trichloroacetic acid liberates all the calcium which is found to be present by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. 3. 3. The titrimetric method of Henly & Saunders (1958) applied to trichloroacetic acid filtrates of plasma, especially when a photoelecric titrator is used, compares well with the results of atomic absorption spectrophotometry made directly on the diluted plasma.
