Zusammenfassung: | The hypothesis that generalization of expectancies from 1 task to another is greater for broad categorizers than for narrows was tested by constituting 3 groups by means of Pettigrew's Category Width Scale. Generalization of expectancies was determined by having Ss estimate their probable scores on 2 different tests before taking either. 1 test was administered, and all Ss received scores 15 points below their estimations. They reestimated their probable scores for the 2nd test before taking it. The generalization measure was the difference between the 1st and 2nd estimates for the 2nd test. Results indicate significant differences in generalization between narrow and broad categorizers and nonsignificant trends for similar differences between broads and a middle group and between narrows and the middle group.
