Zusammenfassung:Four strains of Mycoplasma isolated from contagious caprine pleuropneumonia in Turkey were biochemically and serologically similar and the 3 strains tested produced classical CCPP in experimental goats inoculated by the intratracheal route. Pleuropneumonia was also produced in goats inoculated subcutaneously by 2 of these strains, and in sheep inoculated intratracheally. Two mycoplasmas ( M. agalactiae and 123LN) isolated from goats with conditions other than CCPP and 4 strains said to have originated from this disease either in Turkey or elsewhere failed to produce CCPP in experimental goats inoculated intratracheally. Strains OSB42 and Yamut B resembled the organism of “oedema disease” in their pathogenicity for goats. Comparison of the characteristics of the Mycoplasma strains tested showed that those causing CCPP in Turkey were distinct from all but one of the other CCPP agents tested.
