Zusammenfassung:In a series of 15 Brenner tumors, drawn from 12 patients, an origin of Brenner epithelium from the germinal epithelium of the ovary is proposed in 6 instances. This derivation takes place via “undifferentiated” germinal inclusion cysts. At least 5 types of epithelial cell may differentiate from such cysts, including the epithelial element of Brenner tumors. The relationship of these epithelia and the evolution of mucinous elements associated with Brenner tumors are illustrated by those lesions exhibiting appropriate mixtures of Brenner epithelium and the 4 other cell types originating in the surface epithelium.
