Zusammenfassung:The effect of maternal hyperventilation in absence of hypocapnia upon the fetus was investigated in pregnant guinea pigs. It was shown that in addition to the maternal systemic hypotension which can be induced by hypocapnia, the mechanical effects of positive pressure ventilation can contribute to the production of metabolic acidosis in the fetus probably by diminishing the venous return in the mother and thus causing the decreased placental perfusion.
