Zusammenfassung: | Although the eye is a remarkable example of cellular differentiation, it is none too good as an optical instrument. Does this conflict with the fact that a person can resolve very fine detail? The authors describe the optical capabilities of the eye in terms of its 'spatial filtering' effects, and combine this with what is known about the temporal characteristics of eye movement and light receptors. The result is a theory which accounts for many of the phenomena of visual acuity, but involves only well established mechanisms. |
