Zusammenfassung:The authors suggest that herniation into a mesenteric pouch whose aditus is circumscribed by the ileocolic branch of the superior mesenteric artery and its anastomosis with the last ileal artery should be known as “Hernia into Treves' Field Pouch.” Two fatal cases of herniation into Treves' Field Pouch in children are reported. Patients with this type of internal hernia can live without exhibiting gastrointestinal symptoms. However, intestinal obstruction can occur at the duodeno-jejunal junction or as a result of ileal volvulus. Early recognition and surgical intervention are essential in such cases. The characteristic bowel pattern as seen in the abdominal x-ray is most useful in early detection of the condition. As this hernia is at times associated with abnormal intestinal rotation, a sound knowledge of rotational anomalies is necessary to understand and correct the condition.
