Zusammenfassung:The mutagenic activities of four steroid hormone derivatives, namely 6 beta -hydroxyandrost-4-ene-3,17-dione (1), 6 beta -acetoxyandrost-4-ene-3,17-dione (2), 17 beta -acetoxy-androst- 4- ene-3,6-dione (3) and cholest-4-ene-3,17-dione (4), were studied with umu test using Salmonella typhimurium NM2009 and NM3009 strains. The results showed that the highest mutagenic activity was exhibited by the compound 2 followed by compounds 1, 3 and 4 for both strains. It seemed that the mutagenic activity was lowered by the presence of hydrophobic group at C-17 whereas it was increased by the presence of the beta -acetyl group at C-6 in the steroid nucleus.
