Zusammenfassung: | The article describes the use of local historical archives (defters-Turkish tax poll registers, parish registers, and Libri Status Animarum) for reconstructing sociodemographic growth. The changes in the household structure of Vilovo village have been studied on the basis of the household typology developed by the Cambridge Group. Both the incidence and the longstanding tradition of the category of zadruga have been attributed to the influence of Turkish and Austrian state regulations favouring the zadruga organization, especially in the period when the village was a part of the Military Border. This resulted in its prevalence over other household categories. |
