The Culture of Clinical Specimens for Anaerobic Bacteria: A Comparison Of Three Regimens

Department of Microbiology, North Middlesex Hospital, Edmonton, London, N18 1QX Received August 10, 1976 Accepted September 27, 1976 Three procedures for the anaerobic culture of clinical specimens are compared: (i) a conventional bench routine, (ii) a system whereby primary anaerobic plates were incubated for 48 h before examination, and (iii) an anaerobic chamber. It was shown that the anaerobic chamber was of no advantage over bench regimens when primary anaerobic plates were incubated for 48 h before being examined.
