Zusammenfassung:The calculation of an effective equivalent square treatment area for an irregularly shaped field, using the table of equivalent squares from B.J.R. Supplement 11 3 is explained. Depth doses obtained using this calculated area are compared with experimentally measured values; the results obtained indicate that the method, which is simple enough to be used by technologists, is sufficiently accurate for routine use in treatment planning.
