Human gastrin response after ulcer surgery

The effects of a standard liquid meal on gastric acid and gastrin responses of 21 patients undergoing elective ulcer surgery are reported. Only vagotomy and B II antrectomy reduced gastrin response. Zusammenfassung:The effects of a standard liquid meal on gastric acid and gastrin responses of 21 patients undergoing elective ulcer surgery are reported. Only vagotomy and B II antrectomy reduced gastrin response. Vagotomy alone increased basal gastrin levels only. Intragastric alkalinization did not allow for increased gastrin responses following vagotomy alone. Postoperative gastrin levels do not correlate with the effectiveness of ulcer surgery or acid reduction.
