Zusammenfassung:	The development of a safe method for the tranquillization and immobilization of the badger, (Meles meles) is described. Over a period of 8months, 31 badgers were immobilized on 146 occasions using one of the following agents: etorphine hydrochloride with methotrimeprazine; halothane; ketamine hydrochloride and acepromazine. Ketamine hydrochloride was found to be the most satisfactory agent for the safe immobilization of wild badgers in captivity.
