Some Differences between Staphylococci Isolated from Pus and from Healthy Carriers

Compared to carrier strains, staphylococci isolated from pus produce more acetoin, possess a higher degree of acid phosphatase activity, and show more intense endogenous respiration as well as respiration in the presence of glutamic acid. On the other hand, the virulence of staphylococci for mice by...

Zusammenfassung:Compared to carrier strains, staphylococci isolated from pus produce more acetoin, possess a higher degree of acid phosphatase activity, and show more intense endogenous respiration as well as respiration in the presence of glutamic acid. On the other hand, the virulence of staphylococci for mice by intravenous injection is not correlated with the source of the strain, but with the phage group to which it belongs. Staphylococci typable with group II phages are the most virulent for mice.
