Zusammenfassung:The presence of N-nitrosodimethylamine (DMN) in the air of Baltimore, MD., and belle, W. VA., is confirmed. In Baltimore, dmn levels from 1000-36,000 nanogram/cu M are found in the immediate vicinity of a chemical factory that uses dmn as an intermediate, and this must be considered the most likely local dmn source. Other potential sources include industrial users of amines and combustion products from stationary and nonstationary sources. In belle the source of dmn may be the amine chemical plants in the area. Dmn's possible carcinogenic risk to humans cannot yet be assessed.
