The heavy DNA satellite of yeast and its relationship to the ribosomal RNA genes

Zusammenfassung: | The heavy satellite DNA of
Saccharomyces carlsbergensis has been resolved by preparative NaI density gradient centrifugation. The rRNA genes were found to have a different density than the heavy satellite DNA. The heavy satellite DNA was found to be organized in clusters of molecular weight 15 × 10
6, while the majority of the rRNA genes were found to be organized in clusters of 90 × 10
6 or more. These results show that the rRNA genes are not located in the heavy satellite DNA. |
