Method for analysis of the anomers of glucose

An analytical method for the analysis of anomers of glucose has been described. This method employs glucose oxidase to destroy β-glucose. Analysis of residual glucose is performed by addition of peroxidase and chromogen. The method is operable in blood serum. Conditions have been worked out which will destroy the β form quantitatively and leave over 99% of the α form. Data was presented that indicated a much higher specificity of glucose oxidase for β-glucose than previously reported (probably absolute specificity for β).
