Zusammenfassung:	Coarctation of the aorta in adult patients carries an increased but acceptable surgical risk. Our experience emphasizes the technical advantage of an alternative, simpler surgical procedure, such as bypass grafting between the subclavian artery and descending aorta, when one is faced with a friable aorta and concomitant large aneurysms of the intercostal arteries.
