Zusammenfassung:Eighty-eight patients treated by apical and posterior segmental resection of the right upper lobe are contrasted with a group of 97 patients treated by right upper lobectomy. There was a 63 per cent incidence of complications in those treated by segmental resection and 35 per cent in those treated by lobectomy. In 19 treated by segmental resection, the anterior segment collapsed and remained in this state, thus in essence producing a right upper lobectomy. It is suggested, in view of the higher morbidity and minimal effectiveness of the anterior segment, that right upper lobectomy is the procedure of choice.
