Analysis of Cholesteryl Esters and Triglycerides by Thin-Layer Chromatography

UNTIL now the separation of cholesteryl esters and triglycerides has been performed by column 1 or paper chromatography 2–7 . We have pointed out 8 the progress of thin-layer chromatography in recent years. This method has certain advantages especially for analysis of lipids. In order to investigate the possibilities of this technique in the separation of cholesteryl esters and triglycerides we tried to separate these groups isolated from various biological sources. We have used the partition principle on the impregnated layers since the adsorption principle does not allow satisfactory separation of individual members within homological classes 9–12 .
