Effects of corpus aliatum hormone and its mimics on the activity of the cerebral neurosecretory system of Locusta migratoria migratorioides R. & F

Hyalophora cecropia juvenile hormone stimulates neurosecretory A-cell synthesis and transport in starved and allatectomized Locusta migratoria. Release of material may be stimulated in allatectomized females by this hormone. Farnesyl methyl ether and farnesol, mimics of the corpus allatum hormone, s...

Zusammenfassung:Hyalophora cecropia juvenile hormone stimulates neurosecretory A-cell synthesis and transport in starved and allatectomized Locusta migratoria. Release of material may be stimulated in allatectomized females by this hormone. Farnesyl methyl ether and farnesol, mimics of the corpus allatum hormone, stimulate A-cell synthesis and transport in starved female locusts. Stimulation of each phase of the neurosecretory process takes place to an independently variable degree with each compound used. On the basis of this study an estimate of the comparative activity of the various compounds has been made.
