Zusammenfassung:Crystalline yeast hexokinase, prepared from commercial baker's yeast and recrystallized to constant specific activity, was separated into six molecular forms of equal specific activity by column chromatography on DEAE-cellulose. No protein without hexokinase activity was found. In preliminary studies, hexokinase was separated into at least two components by starch-gel electrophoresis. A technique involving the detection of hydrogen ions released in the hexokinase reaction was used to locate enzymatic activity in the starch gel.
