Zusammenfassung: | The fine structure of leaf cells of
Datura stramonium infected with potato virus X was investigated by means of thin sectioning. The fibrous particles believed to be potato virus X particles occurred usually in fibrous masses, and these fibrous masses were observed within the cytoplasm. The masses of virus particles were of two types. One was built up of fibrous and flexuous particles; the individual particles were loosely interwoven with each other. A membranous or fine granular organelle was observed around the mass. The other was composed of fibrous particles compactly aggregated into a bundle; the membranous or fine granular organelle could not be detected around it. The chloroplasts, nuclei, and mitochondria within the virus-infected leaf cells appeared to be intact; no virus or viruslike particles were detectable within them. Spherical bodies of unknown nature were found within the virus-infected cell vacuoles. |
