Zusammenfassung:A new laxative agent, bisacodyl, was compared with glycerin suppositories in the bowel care of twenty patients with acute myocardial infarction. In a total of 109 trials with one or both agents, bisacodyl was effective in 79.7 per cent, while glycerin suppositories were effective in 42 per cent. Few undesirable reactions were observed with either agent, and none were severe. Bisacodyl appears to be well tolerated and quite reliably effective in treating constipation associated with acute myocardial infarction.
