Effects of oestrogens upon the sialic acid in the submaxillary and sublingual glands in the rat

The effect of castration and of the daily administration of 1 or 10 μg of oestradiol benzoate during 1 month to spayed female rats upon sialic acid concentration in the submaxillary and sublingual glands and in plasma was studied. The weight and the sialic acid concentration in both glands was not significantly altered by castration. The administration of oestradiol benzoate increased the weight and sialic acid concentration in the submaxillary glands, but it did not affect the weight and decreased the sialic acid concentration of the sublingual glands. The plasma sialic acid concentration was decreased by spaying and increased by the administration of oestradiol benzoate to castrated rats. On a étudié l'effet de la castration et de l'administration quotidienne de 1 ou 10 μg de benzoate d'oestradiol pendant un mois aux rates castrées, sur la concentration de l'acide sialique dans les glandes sous-maxillaires et sous-linguales et dans le plasma. Le poids et la concentration de l'acide sialique dans les deux glandes ne fut pas altérées significativement par la castration. L'administration du benzoate d'oestradiol augmentait le poids et la concentration de l'acide sialique dans les glandes sous-maxillaires mais n'affecta pas le poids et diminua la concentration de l'acide sialique dans les glandes sous-linguales. La concentration de l'acide sialique du plasma était diminuée par la castration et augmentée par l'administration du benzoate d'oes-tradiol aux rates castrées. Es wurde die Wirkung von Kastrierung und einer täglichen Verabfolgung von 1 oder 10 μg Oestradiolbenzoat auf sialsaure Konzentration in den Unterkiefer- und Unterzungen-Speicheldrüsen und im Plasma bei weiblichen Ratten untersucht, denen der Eierstock entfernt worden war. Das Gewicht und die sialsäurekonzentration wurde in beiden Drüsen nicht bedeutend durch Kastrierung geändert. Die Verabfolgung von Oestradiolbenzoat erhöhte das Gewicht und die sialsäurekonzentration in den Unterkieferspeicheldrüsen, sie beeinfluβte aber nicht das Gewicht in den Unterzungspeicheldrüsen und erniedrigte die sialsäurekonzentration in diesen. Die sialsaure Konzentration nahm im Plasma durch Entfernung der Eierstöcke ab und nahm durch Verabfolgung von Oestradiolbenzoat bei kastrierten Ratten zu.
