Zusammenfassung:Extensive and detailed review of the World literature pertinent to the problem of EFE and the study of 106 cases from several hospitals in Ontario, Canada, indicates that the disease is most probably of a viral etiology and is a sequel to myocarditis or pancarditis. Such a pathogenetic pathway seems to be the only one that can explain the morphologic variations of the disease and its concomitant cardiac lesions.
