Zusammenfassung:The effects of phenylbutazone and its metabolite, MI, on certain manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis were studied in 24 patients by a double‐blind method. Grip strength and the duration of morning stiffness were influenced significantly by both the parent drug and its derivative. By such partially subjective criteria the metabolite MI had greater antirheumatic activity than phenylbutazone. Sedimentation rates and joint swelling (circumference) were not altered appreciably by either agent.
