Zusammenfassung:The causes of hydrops retails aré presented in chart form. Two cases of nonimmunologic hydrops fetalis are presented. In 1 case the etiology is unknown but in the other a chronic fetal-maternal transfusion is suspected. Efforts to discover the etiology of nonimmunologic hydrops fetalis should include tests, such as the Betke-Kleihauer test, to rule out chronic fetalmaternal transfusions. A plea is made for this test to be done prior to labor and delivery to prevent confusion, since the mechanics of delivery can introduce fetal red cells into the maternal circulation.
