Breathing pattern in the guinea-pig
The laboratory guinea-pig (Cavia porcellus L.) is unable to breathe by mouth except under extreme respiratory stress, when an oral route is maintained only on a breath-to-breath basis. Normal breathing in this species is accomplished through the nasal passages only, even after heavy exercise.
