Extraosseous adenomatoid odontogenic tumor with special reference to the probability of the basal-cell layer of oral epithelium as a potential source of origin: Report of a case

A case of extraosseous odontogenic adenomatoid tumor is presented. In this case, the increase in gingival tissue was taken for simple hyperplasia. Since the lesion was in an early stage of growth, the histologic appearance had curious characteristics which suggested the possible involvement of the oral mucous membrane in the genesis of odontogenic tumors.
