Zusammenfassung:Ten Hereford×Dairy Shorthorn heifers were allocated to three treatments: adequately fed and machine milked (HM); fed to maintenance requirements and machine milked (LM); and fed to maintenance requirements and suckled (LS), for 72 days with 3, 3 and 4 animals respectively. Average daily milk yields showed a decline over the period from 9·8 to 9·0kg, 9·0 to 5·6kg and 6·1 to 5·9kg for groups HM, LM and LS, with corresponding weight changes of o, —57 and —25kg.
