Alteration of Immunocompetence by Mammary Tumor Virus

Comparison of immunocompetence of 2- to 4-month-old C3HeB/FeJ mice, presumably infected with mammary tumor virus (MTY) by foster-feeding on infected C3H/HeJ mothers, showed that MTV infection was correlated with a depressed ability to mount a hypersensitive reaction to methylated bovine serum albumi...

Zusammenfassung:Comparison of immunocompetence of 2- to 4-month-old C3HeB/FeJ mice, presumably infected with mammary tumor virus (MTY) by foster-feeding on infected C3H/HeJ mothers, showed that MTV infection was correlated with a depressed ability to mount a hypersensitive reaction to methylated bovine serum albumin, with no concomitant depression of humoral antibody production to sheep red blood cells. MTV increased the ability of female mice to make 7S hemolysin. Thus the effect of MTV on immunocompetence is more complex than a simple immunosuppression.
