Zusammenfassung:The postcommissurotomy syndrome is a frequent troublesome complication after mitral valve surgery, the etiology of which is still obscure. In this study of 137 patients who survived surgery the clinical features of this complication are carefully detailed, possible associated conditions are studied, and pathologic findings in the atrial appendages are analyzed. In particular, the relation of this syndrome to the rheumatic state is critically examined.
